Viral Load Test Scheduled - Chapter 24

March 10th

A week has passed since my last entry and again we just returned from the doctors office. Don's initial lab tests are still in a good range, but I am concerned. This week his platelet count increased by 1,000. When he first had to cut the Interferon shot down to 1/2 the dose, his platelet count increased by 8,000. The next week it increased by 2,000 and this week, only by 1,000. I cannot help but to be concerned by this. I am scarred it may start to slip backwards again.

It is very difficult, for me at least, to just stay calm, confident ...and patient. Don's 12th Interferon shot is going to be on Saturday, the 28th of March. His next lab is scheduled for the following Monday, the 30th of March. It would take a week after that to get the results back...a grueling week for us I am sure! This was the big Viral Load test that will tell us if the chemotherapy is working or not. Medically he will be classified as either a responder or a non-responder.

As I sit here drinking coffee, listening to light classics, ready to read the Sunday paper ~ I am struck by the knowledge that in my world everything seems to be OK at the momemt ~ but in your world, no matter how the days unfold ~ nothing will be 'OK' until everything is 'OK' with Don. I urge you again to take care of yourself through this ordeal ....

We will pray together this week that Don will be a responder and that healing will take place, no matter what. This is tough, the waiting. I can sympathize, but nobody but you two are really going through the same thing. I send you my love.

Hi Julie:
I can only imagine how hard it is to stay calm. I pray that Don is a responder.

Like Helen, things are so right in my world that I sometimes forget that it isn't that way with so many. I do try my very best to remember that and never take anything given to me from God for granted.
You know we are all praying that Don is responding!
Take good care of YOU and know that we are all praying...
I am not so sure I can wait much longer to know how he is doing. I think of the both of you often. I know you have children...where are they fitting in on all this? How are they taking it?

Julie, we are praying for the best results for Don and you. I know it's so hard to wait and not know what's going to happen.
Lots of hugs, Susan
