A Good Gardening Idea!

Don't waste your money on one of these seed starter kits!

Instead, get creative and do this! Not only can you use the egg shell as a planter, but you can use the carton as a holder and when it is time to transplant the plant into the ground - all you have to do is crack the bottom of the egg shell and plant the whole thing!

Something Pretty!

Do you remember this great bed tray that I found at a garage sale?

Well, I love to take a tray of food into the bedroom either in the morning or at night and was looking for a small pitcher to use...so I went to Marshall's.

I not only found a stunning pitcher, but also a small cream and sugar set! When I saw it, I knew it was exactly the right size.

The Craigslist Crib and the Marshall's Bedding

Here is the crib I purchased off of Craigs List.

..and some close up photos of the teething marks I talked about. I do not have time to refinish the crib before they get here, so I just scrubbed the 'bejeebee's' (Southern term..Deep Southern!) out of it!

Starting to assemble it..

The Crib Bedding

After searching far and wide and getting more and more frustrated by the minute, I found this nice crib set at Marshall's. Now - if we had our dream house..you know the one with the extra bedrooms...I would have designed a nursery from floor to ceiling.

..but because this crib will only be set up when my Grandbabies are here, this works out perfect. Oh - by the way..I refused to buy cartoon themed bedding..which still added up to costing almost $100.00. The higher end sets were over $200. This Noah's Arc set cost a whopping $39.00! Included were the comforter, the bumper pads, a fitted sheet and the dust ruffle. Origonal cost $110.00

Great weekend find!

No auctions and no resale shops...just a visit to Hobby Lobby. Some of you will be horrified to hear that they are currently putting out both their fall and Christmas decorations! That thrills my socks off. Since they needed more space to display these new treasures, they have quite a bit on sale..and on sale big!

I bought this lantern and stand. They are both very heavy and is almost identical to the ones I saw at the Pottery Barn that were very $$. The glass is beveled and the finish is polished. The lantern will be used in the arbor by the new lambs pen and the stand will be used in the garden elsewhere with another lantern. (BTW - I love lanterns!) You will see them both later in some 'after' photos.

The Real Reason I Went to the Auction

It was this item that drew me into the auction. I have wanted a floor mirror for years since we do not have a full length one in the farm house. I love the details of it.....and for the best part????? $140.00

Auction!

This Saturday, my Father accompanied me to an auction in a small town called Rosenburg, TX. I had never been to this auction before but had heard about it through a friend. This is what I came home with! For all of $70.00, I got this 3 piece wicker set. As you can see, I am already in the process of painting it black. Plans are to make cushions and to use this outside when company comes to the farm.

American's are so Rich They are Throwing Away the Good Stuff Too!

Have you ever thought that when you were in a resale shop?
Here is a breakdown of what I bought:

A lidded butter dish with a glass insert.

A salt and pepper shaker.

A sugar scoop.

A cherry bowl.

A sugar bowl.

Weekend Finds

This weekend I learned that my favorite resale shop had a second location. I was so excited and could not wait to get over there. Once I arrived, I noticed that they had more clothes, less books, but about the same amount of household items...which is my favorite hunting ground. I especially love silver because there is such a huge difference in what you buy and what you get once it is polished. Today, to my surprise, I did not only find some wonderful silver pieces, but was thrilled to discover that one of my little treasures was STERLING! The most expensive piece was $4.00, the least was .25c and guess which was sterling???

Deal of the Century!

Anyone who has not tried to find a needed item off of Craig's List is really missing out on some good deals. Twenty five years ago, I bought a kitchen table that I was in love with...and still am to this day. It is one of those big oak tables with a pedestal bottom that extends into 4 big lion claws, only this table also had the lions heads above the claws. With the table, I purchased 6 pressed back chairs. Over the years, one by one chairs have been broken. Here is what I found on Craig's List. 4 Pressed back solid oak chairs for the tiny price of only $90.00! 4 chairs for only $90.00. I am sure I paid more than that for EACH chair I purchased 25 years ago.

Some Great Finds!

In search for a nice Thrifty Shop, I came across a resale store called NAM. It is a non-profit store and everything they sell has been donated. Not looking for anything in particular, I came across some beautiful silver items. The salt and peper shakers were all of $4.00 and the silver plated dish was only .50 cents! They had 2 very large bins full of an assortment of things and each was either $1.00 or .50 cents. I think I will need to go back on a weekly basis!
