The Library

This is a Barrister book case. I currently have 3 matching antique bookcases that look somewhat like this one. I like mine better!

Anyway, I grew up in a family that loved to read. My Father owned thousands of books.. thousands! In our house, sometimes there was no need for me to go to the public library because the information I was looking for was in this collection of books.. So - now you understand why having a small library in my own home is very important to me. So important, I want it to be the room that is directly to the right after you walk through the front door.I love this picture because if you enlarge it, you will see to the left that this owner also has Barrister book cases!

Separated at birth, what?!? My dream home ALSO has a dedicated library (along with that killer bedroom you already posted). In fact, when I daydream about my ideal domicile, a fabulous library is one of my favorite parts. I bet I own at least 500 books myself and they are overflowing every shelf they're on. Movers absolutely hate us... ("Lady, what the h*** is in all these small, extremely heavy boxes?") I can barely stand to part with anything, just in case I might want to read it again. And I absolutely do re-read a LOT of my collection!

P.S. I am constantly amazed and appalled at the lack of books at many, if not most, homes that I visit. Just. Don't. Get. It. I remember going bananas when I was babysitting and the only written materials around were the back of cereal boxes and the Bible (not that there's anything wrong with that :-). I'm not happy unless there's a teetering stack by my bed, much less the rest of the house!

Funny - I built bookshelves in our barn apartment that will accommodate books 3 deep (24" deep!). While it is good for storage, I hate not being able to see my beloved books.

I don't have a dedicated library, but I love to read and just recently got a chair and ottoman in my bedroom. I love to sit there and read or watch a movie.

I do love those bookcases....
