Wheelchair Annie

Well - the wheelchair made it to my door...This is what it looked like right in the box....

..and out...

...here was our first try. Right after I put her in it....she backed up..and kept going until she was stuck in the weeds.

..and the other Corgi's got bored and went to get a drink out of the horse trough...

..I tried it on her several different ways and made adjustments here and there.. and she still would only either lay down or back up, so I had to change my tactics...offering a bone. Nope! She just laid down and stared at it.

..so I upped the 'annie'.. get it 'annie' and Annie?? Yeah - NO.. still not working.

..still trying everything and anything...but Annie was clearly NOT amused.

If anyone has any ideas for me.. please speak up. I am seriously disappointed that this has not worked yet.

Oh, Julie, I have no experience with these little wheelchairs. Has Annie completely lost all mobility in her back legs? If not all, then I would somehow try to let her legs dangle where she could possibly use them and let the chair support her. Keep us updated. Poor little Annie..

You , my friend, are the best nurse I know. I would not dare try to tell you how to do it. I really think Annie will come around with time. :) Hope your shoulder feels better.

Have you tried actually moving her fornt legs for her? like straddling over her, bent over of course, and actually taking a leg in each hand and walking her forward. Only a few steps then let her relax and praise and treat. Do this a few times then take her out of the chair and let her relax. Do another session a few hours later just the same but with more praise and treats everytime "she walks" forward (actually it'll be you walking her legs for her). Hopeing something helps.

Have you tried an intermediate step, like helping her walk with a towel (or something similar) wrapped under her waist? You hold the fabric ends and give just a little lift. She walks, and you gently support the rear to get the concept of what the chair feels like and will do for her.

What a sweet little Corgi. Good luck with her rehab and efforts to get her mobile again.

In the veterinary hospital I worked at that used them we would usually attach the leash to the rear of the wheelchair. When my yorkie needed one I just left him in it and took everyone else away, he wouldn't even try if the other dogs were watching. After a long while he finally tried to walk and eventually even liked it. For some did it can take a long time. Just have patience and keep trying.

Sometimes taking them for a walk some place they really like can help too.

The New Heights Electric Elevating Manual Wheelchair, and the New Heights Electric Elevating Power Wheelchairs, available exclusively from Bromac Assistive Technology, were developed to resolve the single greatest problem encountered by all wheelchair users, which is that of being stuck at one level, and not being able to access things in a world that was designed for people who could stand.

These wheelchairs are designed as general purpose utility wheelchairs, to be used in, and for, your day to day living and transportation. With them, you can go anyplace and do anything that you can with any standard conventional wheelchair, however, these wheelchairs will also change your life. These wheelchairs are designed to easily, and temporarily elevate you, at the push of a button, from a standard seated height, to a height greater than that of a person standing, or any height in between. They will do this safely and securely, while remaining within the same size and performance constraints as any standard conventional wheelchair.

Now, for a cost that is far less than that of properly adapting your home to a conventional wheelchair, you can have a wheelchair which will completely adapt you to any home, as well as provide the same easy access to everything outside of your home as well. With these wheelchairs you can access the highest shelves in any store or kitchen cabinet, you can come up to the height of any counter or workbench and work comfortably. You can now have conversations with people at eye level instead of constantly having to look up at them, and these are only a few of the many new things the New Heights wheelchairs will enable you to do.

These wheelchairs will enable you to function independently in virtually any environment, and will give you the freedom to do what you want to do, without the need for assistance from other people.
