4 More Days... A Splurge!

We decided to buy a tux for Don, so we purchased this one, minus the vest. I purchased a Latte colored vest with matching bow tie and pocket silk and a black bow tie to go with it. That way, one night he can wear it with the colored vest and tie, the other he can wear just the jacket and black tie. There are 2 formal nights on our cruise and I wanted to go all out. I won't lie.. Don was willing to wear anything I wanted him to. I nudged him towards the tux for several reasons...but one main one was that I know we would purchase pictures.. pictures that we can put right by our bed, the living room, on the frig.. ha ha - well you get my drift! I feel just giddy since after 20 years of marriage, I have never seen the boy in a tux! I can't wait!!

A short tux story... first I went "brick and mortar" store shopping. OM Gosh - Polyester tuxes were $300.00 and the wool ones started at $500...with the really nice ones jumping to $750.00!!! I went to 5 stores!

I have been reading a forum at www.cruisecritic.com They saved me!! It was there that I found several people who recommended a specific style and designer for a black wool tux that was currently being offered on overstock.com. I rushed right over to that sight ...only to be crushed to find that they no longer had Don's size available. Thankfully, I found the same tux (albeit $30.00 more expensive) on another site. Yes - we are currently awaiting shipment of said tux..so I can hem the pants! Something is waiting at the post office for us today... so I will give you an update soon!

Also - a fashion note: I "learnt" this from my Mom... who was a couture seamstress. "Always choose light weight wool over polyester. If polyester gets rubbed - it will develope a shinny spot!" I actually saw a brand new tux in one of the stores that already had a rub spot just from hanging on a rack with too many other jackets! Also - polyester wears in some (ahem) interesting places after it has been worn!

You must be getting so excited and anxious for your cruise.
I am anxious too, to see the pictures you take. You and Don will look beautiful in your dress clothes. You two deserve some fun and happiness.

You asked a few days ago for suggestions of things to bring on your cruise. The one and only time I cruised, I found myself desperately in need of a needle and thread to stitch a ripped seam in a pair of pants. Unfortunately, there was nothing to be found on board. Don't forget to tuck a threaded needle into the lining of your suitcase. Have fun!
