Update on KC

Yeah! Still no seizures!!!

Yesterday afternoon, I had my second appointment with the vet. KC had to get another shot of (??) to keep his brain from swelling and have a series of x-rays done. NO FRACTURES!!! Thank you God!! He does however have a severe concussion and a LOT of side effects. He cannot walk straight - always turning at a left arc - showing the right side of the brain is bruised. He still does not respond to his name and has not wagged his tail :0( He is still on heavy pain meds and antibiotics (both injections)

The good news is everyday he gets a tiny bit better. Last night, instead of giving him plain water with a turkey baster (he still will not drink from a bowl), I boiled some chicken and fed him some of the broth. He acted like he enjoyed that more. He also swallowed some very small pieces of the chicken that were so tender - all he had to do was swallow them. He gets exhausted easily, but walks a bit further every day before giving up. I do still have to "remind" him that he can walk by picking him up onto his legs and scratching his butt to get him to move forward. Last night he even turned his ears towards me when I was behind him and talking to him. He also turned and looked at me when I gave him his shot last night. That was a first.

What I want to see.. the tail wag! More eye contact when I speak to him. Him to recognize his name. The doctor to tell me he is A-OK!

We have another check up appointment next week and the following week he may need to have a broken tooth extracted.

Thank you for all of your kind comments.

I'm so glad your sweet dog is doing better. It sounds like he's going to be OK.

Oh, bless him! Hope he's feeling better soon!! With those shots, and the swelling going down, you should see little improvements daily!

You're doing a good job, puppy mommy! Keep us posted when that tail wags!!

Julie, it sounds like KC is doing a little better. I hope each day will be an improvement over the previous day and soon he will be running around again.

Oh Julie! My stomach (and heart) hurts after reading what happened to KC. Bless his heart! We've just returned from our Marco Island trip, so I'm spending time in-between laundry to play "catch up" yet again with my blog reading and e-mails, all 144 of them!) Keep us updated. I'll stop now and say a prayer for KC...and you.

Hugs!
Kat

progress even in very small steps is good! Your poor doggie, he must be so confused and afraid. I'm going to keep praying for him!

Hi there,

Just discovered your blog and I am so terribly sorry your little dog had to go through that!! I am such an animal lover and it's so hard when they can't really communicate with us to tell us what hurts. I'm so glad he's getting well! I wish him a speedy recovery!

Julie, glad to hear there is some improvement. Every little bit is a plus. Also the fact that you saw the vet today and have a better idea about KC's condition is a good thing. I pray for daily progress and his return to health. The really tough part when pets are injured or sick is that they cannot tell you how they feel. Take care of yourself, you have allot of people pulling for KC and you. Sandy

Oh, I am going through something so similar. It really breaks my heart to read that another blogger is going through such a tough ordeal.
My Sammie can't walk either. The vet called last yesterday and said she might me able to see a slight improvement. She says small improvements are normally better than fast improvements. She says when there are fast improvements that they seem to go backwards more often. We will both have to hope and pray that both our dogs keep showing improvements.
I'll keep you in my prayers!!
