Table Settings Part 5 ~ Menu's & Placecard's

With a bit of time, some colorful paper, maybe a ribbon or 2 and a computer with a printer you can add a personal touch to your dinner party by making Placecards and even a Menu! I have also seen small cards set in front of buffet items with the recipe title on it!

How easy would these be to make?!!!

TODAY'S TABLE SETTING TRIVIA
The napkin as we know it today dates from the 16th century, but it was very large. It was made of damask linen and soon became commonly used.

At that time it was fashionable to fold tablecloths and particularly napkins in the shape of birds, animals and all kinds of fruits. This tradition lasted for more than 200 years.

Well this wraps up the week of Place Setting Trivia. I hope you all enjoyed it and learned something. I sure had a lot of fun putting this together! Thank you for all of your sweet comments.

My goal is to, one day, have a lovely holiday dinner, complete with invitations, placecards, proper table settings - the whole nine yards. Of course, my goal is to also be able to afford a full wait staff one day, too. lol I'm thinking maybe I should consider changing my goal to just one holiday dinner with no family arguments. Well...that's about as likely as me having a wait staff one day so maybe I should REALLY lower my goals to a simple buffet style holiday dinner with no lumps in the mashed potatoes. Yeah, THAT I can probably do.

I particularly loved the place cards stuck in CHOCOLATE!! Gotta love that...also, I'm kind of glad the way they folded napkins for over 200 years into birds has changed today...cos I'm thinking my bounty paper towels just wouldn't make the same statement as the damask ones....you have done a GREAT job this week...walking us all through the table settings, napkin folding and trivia...not to mention some wonderful ideas and pictures...you know...what ever happened to the classes that some of us attended when we were little girls to learn how to do all these lovely things...it's a lost art...I'm afraid...and I've probably helped misplace it a little on my own...

Again...Thanks for the research and postings...it was all very lovely!

Blessings...

Julie, I'm so happy to see the menus. We're working on menu cards for the reception tables of my daughter's wedding! There are some beautiful examples here. Great inspiration.
