We compared the Advantage box and individual container that I used on Chrissy to the ones the vet sells and they are identical. Our vet called Bayer company, who makes Advantage and reported the incident. They took a report on it, but said they have never had an incident of seizure.
The seizures started less than an hour after it was applied to her. Does that mean that it was the Advantage that caused it? Not certain, but it makes for a lot of suspicion.
Update:
They gave her a mega dose of anti inflamitory in the hopes that the seizures are being caused by some brain swelling. They also reduced her Phenob. down to 2 tenths of 1 cc. That small amount kept her from having a seizure for 4 hours and the vet was very optimistic about that. Praying for longer and longer time frames inbetween the seizures.

I would lean toward suspicions about the Advantage too. Pretty strange that the onset was soon after the application of the Advantage. I hope everything is okay with Chrissy. I know you're worried sick about her.
Julie, since I live here I thought I'd call over to TAMU - I contacted the pharmacy at the small animal hospital and was told that the Advantage could possibly cause the seizures if the dog has any sensitivity to it. That's not much help. I wish there was something I could do to help you.
Have you used the Advantage before this? Maybe she is just allergic to it. I know some animals get freaky allergic reactions to things seemingly out of nowhere - like my 4-year old AQHA filly had a reaction to her vaccinations 24 hours after she got them. And, another horse I know got hives and airway swelling one day.....from a fly bite. It never happened before, and it hasn't happened again. One of my student's horses walked across their yard, stuck her nose in the grass, and suddenly her face and neck were swelling - just the one freaky time. I know there's a differenc between dogs and horses and how they respond to things, but maybe this is just a "freak", one time kind of thing.....
I sure hope she gets through this. The photo of her was heart-wrenching.
Just for the heck of it I went to a website I order horse and pet products from and clicked on flea and tick stuff - then clicked on Advantage. They posted a huge warning on there that was all about pets having reactions to those kinds of products. They suggested using a few drops first to see hoe pets reacted to it.
Funny that the feed stores don't do the same.
So, apparently, there has to be other pet owners who have had problems like this also, for the catalog to post warnings on all their flea products.
Oh my heart is just breaking for you. I lost my corgi, not because of this, and I just loved her so. They are such sweet dogs. I'm praying she'll be better.
Thanks for the updates, Julie. We are all praying for you guys. I had a white cat several years ago. She was my love, and I know they say white cats have lowered immunity for some reason. Anyway I used a small test dose on her of something like that, can't remember now, and she also had a horrible reaction. The site of the drops became a huge bloody, infected wound. Sounds gross, it was. It took her a while to get back to normal. I'm so sorry your going through this. Keep us posted.
Debra
Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping Chrissy gets better.
