Thanksgiving Pictures!

We decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at Joy's house again this year.

The whole family was there.. which is not too many these days since both of my parents were only children and neither of my brothers have kiddos.

Let's see... there is Don and I and here he is with the Grandchildren, Madison and Trestin.

This is our oldest daughter Emily, our son in law Daren and again Madison and Daren.

Trestin playing with a toy truck that my oldest brother Jim gave him.

Here is Joy's (our youngest daughter) boyfriend Blake. Blake's Dad also joined us.

Here is Joy. She is becoming quite proficient at entertaining! Check out her new oven/stove!

..and this was the beautiful table. I wish I had taken a picture of it BEFORE we ate! My brother Jim is on the right. My other brother Tom and his wife Adelaide seemed to have escaped the camera's eye...

..probably because we were obsessed with taking pictures of these 2 hams!

..and just because our time was so short... the day after Thanksgiving - we made some adorable reindeer cookies!

Before We Move On To Christmas...

I wanted to share some pictures from our Family Thanksgiving!

This is my Father and one of my brothers, Tom carving the turkey.
This is Tom's beautiful wife Adelaide.
..and this is my oldest brother James.
Joy, my youngest daughter holding her nephew Trestin.
Here is Daren, Emily, Madison and Trestin
..a 4 generation boy photo..
.and this is our turkey..well before my Father the neurosurgeon got a hold of it anyway!
This beautiful bowl was acquired at the auction along with 5 matching bowls for $25.00. The bowls were perfect for the cobbler Tom and Adelaide made.
..and the big bowl was used for the peas and carrots.
This stunning pitcher was another antique auction find...one of my favorites!
..and a few shots of our table..

Thanksgiving Dinner Outside??

Once again we are going to try and have Thanksgiving dinner outside at the farm. This year we are expecting 12 and I have always wanted to host the dinner out doors. Sadly for the last 2 years though..we have had to move it indoors because of the weather..:0( It needs to be around 70 degrees or warmer and it must not be windy! We live on the top of a hill, so even if there is no wind forecast, we always have a breeze. That is something I welcome..but it also means that if wind is forecast...it will be more accelerated on the top of our big hill! Keep your fingers crossed for me this year!

Thanksgiving History!

In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. This harvest meal has become a symbol of cooperation and interaction between English colonists and Native Americans. Although this feast is considered by many to the very first Thanksgiving celebration, it was actually in keeping with a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. Native American groups throughout the Americas, including the Pueblo, Cherokee, Creek and many others organized harvest festivals, ceremonial dances, and other celebrations of thanks for centuries before the arrival of Europeans in North America.

Historians have also recorded other ceremonies of thanks among European settlers in North America, including British colonists in Berkeley Plantation, Virginia. At this site near the Charles River in December of 1619, a group of British settlers led by Captain John Woodlief knelt in prayer and pledged "Thanksgiving" to God for their healthy arrival after a long voyage across the Atlantic. This event has been acknowledged by some scholars and writers as the official first Thanksgiving among European settlers on record. Whether at Plymouth, Berkeley Plantation, or throughout the Americas, celebrations of thanks have held great meaning and importance over time. The legacy of thanks, and particularly of the feast, have survived the centuries as people throughout the United States gather family, friends, and enormous amounts of food for their yearly Thanksgiving meal.

Some Fall Flavor..

Adding a few touches of yellow and orange. Chrissy can be such an attention hog!

Just for fun, I already put out a few Halloween decorations like these black cats in the windows. They look really cool from the outside at night!

I made these girl and boy ghosts out of simple felt.

Here is the Swedish horse with an orange bow.

Dried flowers in the proper color code and...

..this is my all time favorite Halloween decoration - the witch!

These are my kitchen cabinet's with a bit of Fall decor.

I love this glass turkey and wish now that I bought 2 of them when I found them half price last year.I heart Fall and Fall colors!
